Preikestolen 2024
Preikestolen (604 m), Rogaland
2024/06
Norway
Photo 1: Start of the hike to Preikestolen, one of the most visited hiking trails in Norway, with over 300,000 visitors per year.
Photo 2: The trail initially leads through a forest. After rain, the route can be muddy and slippery in places. Many sections are improved with stone steps.
Photo 3: Approaching the first views above Lysefjorden, a 42-kilometre-long Norwegian fjord with walls reaching up to 1,000 metres.
Photo 4: First sight of Preikestolen – "The Pulpit Rock". This natural rock platform measures approximately 25 x 25 metres and towers 604 metres above the fjord.
Photo 5: A side view of Preikestolen illustrates its sheer cliffs. Cracks in the rock platform are regularly monitored by geologists who track its stability.
Photo 6: View from Preikestolen over Lysefjorden, whose name means "Light Fjord" after the light-grey granite washed by its waters.
Photo 7: In summer, Preikestolen is one of the most popular destinations in the Rogaland region, attracting visitors from around the world.
Photo 8: Foggy conditions are common in this area, adding a dramatic atmosphere to the site.
Photo 9: A distant view captures the entire platform and the approach trail. The hike to Preikestolen is approximately 8 km (round trip) with an elevation gain of about 500 metres.
Photo 10: A view straight down reveals the imposing drop beneath Preikestolen to the fjord surface. Preikestolen is one of the most photographed attractions in Norway.
Photo 11: A sunny day above Preikestolen offers clear views of the wide surroundings. There are no railings on the platform.
